A fellow colleague and now good friend, Dr. Steve Slagle, introduced me to 4-Life Research in 1999. My very dearest horse had recently foundered to the point where I almost lost him. I was looking for solutions to his “Pre-Cushing’s” condition other than the conventional drugs he had been on for the previous 6 months. As a result, I took a very long and deep look into Transfer Factors. It changed my life, and my horse’s life. This horse’s injury years ago brought me into the study of Veterinary Acupuncture, saved my life many times over many miles, and now, once again, he brought me into 4-Life Research. To make a long story short, this horse has recovered and has been maintained in perfect health and soundness with the help of these 4-Life products.

I have seen in the past few years an ever-increasing effect on our horses, other animals and us, from the many stresses that damage the immune system. These include pesticides in the food chain, nitrates in the water, heavy metal contamination actually found in some feeds. The chemicals we eat in our food, and pick up from cooking aids and plastics are things you don’t even want to know about. Nor can we discount the detrimental effects of over-vaccination, antibiotics, as well as the necessary evils, such as parasite controlling drugs. In addition we have emotional stresses. Don’t think the horses don’t have both physical and emotional stress. Although they generally don’t watch TV, they have heavy show schedules, travel circuits, and demands put on them that they don’t understand at all. ALL OF THESE THINGS AFFECT THE IMMUNE SYSTEM AND CAN DAMAGE IT.

We have seen a significant increase in immune deficiency disorders such as EPM, and the endocrine related founders. We see an increasing number of Cushing’s Syndrome cases, “Pre or Para Cushing’s”, or just plain “Stress-related Hyper-Adrenalism.” When one endocrine organ is affected, they all are. So there is a subsequent effect on Thyroid function, Insulin, Reproductive Hormone function, and so one. Here is a clue! If the immune system is deficient, the adrenal gland will be over-active. If the immune system is very strong, the abnormal cortisol levels will normalize.

“Transfer Factor, and Transfer Factor Plus: Transfer Factors are messenger molecules with intelligence, commonly known as cytokines. These small proteins act as the brains for the immune system. Transfer Factor performs three immune system functions. They identify infectious agents (programmed to quickly recognize hundreds of known pathogens) and instruct the immune system to produce antibodies (boosts immune defense). Unlike all other immune enhancing supplements on the market, Transfer Factor modulates and balances an overactive immune system (i.e. autoimmune diseases and allergies). Since the discovery of the basic properties of transfer factors in 1949, more than 3000 peer reviewed studies and papers have been completed establishing transferfactors’ efficacy and safety. Many of these documents can be found on Medline. Recently, immunology researchers discovered transfer factors (a non-species specific immune-rich protein) in bovine colostrums.
